Lame-O things are happening in the world:
- Global Warming
- War
- Increasing tuition costs
- Gas prices
- The discontinuation of English Toffee at Tim Horton's (ok that was a while ago. I am still feeling the loss though)
But suddenly a new ill has hit us. Or maybe just me. No one writes in their blogs anymore. What a sad thing. No one has opinions anymore? Even sadder.
Oh well. I seem to have a dedicated following of non-blogspot subscribers, so I will continue to blabber on just for them <3. I quite enjoy this exercise, even if my grammar and structure are clearly lacking a lot (well, probably most) of the time.
Anyway, I bartended for WWE this evening. Here is my question to you: WHY? Just, WHYYYYY?? Really! I don't get this over the top display of machismo! I peaked my head in for a few minutes here and there, and... and.... like, not even the tiniest smidget of convincing! It is one humongous male soap opera (sorry to tell you this boys), with worse story lines and acting than crappy porn. But 5,000 people seemed to have really enjoyed themselves tonight, so who am I to judge. Still, one of them even invited me out afterwards, because I "just smell so gooood!". Hmmmmm, enticing! Especially the part where you belched in my face <3. I do not get paid enough there!
But I did get to see some old friends again :). Paolo, I forgive you for liking WWE, if only because you're a Marauder now. (But I hope you snap out of it soon! And how dare you purchase beer from another bar! What's the use in a friend who bartends if you're not going to use the hook up? Sheesh!).
Dear Ms. Kay: I am sorry you had to endure 5 hours of it. While I got to deal with the finest of the fine customers present at Second Christmas, I did not have to unwillingly endure the show itself (although, David Bowie's wife was quite the show in and of herself). I hope you are still able to form new synapses and continue your life the way you planned. Signed, your admirer.
On a completely different note: GO OUT AND GET THE NEW MUSE ALBUM! NOW! GO! What a MASTERPIECE! Matthew Bellamy is a god, and the band's work on The Resistance is incomparable to anything new I have heard in a VERY LONG TIME! The man wrote a symphony, ok?! Such tributes to Queen and Bowie, as well as influenced by classical composers such as Rachmaninoff, Chopin, Debussy..... you HAVE to hear it. In fact, just let me know, I'm more than happy to burn it for anyone wanting a listen!
Life is busy these days. I'm going to be a guest speaker (haha) representing Reach for the Rainbow to the second year EA class on Thursday. This should be interesting, me talking to 60 adult students. Much different from teaching kids... MUCH! Kids care much less if you make a fool of yourself, in fact they expect it. We'll see how I manage this. Besides that, my class starts tomorrow at McMaster. I'm pretty stoked! I LOVE learning, and I'm super happy to return to Mac to do so on Wednesday nights. I'm taking Approaches to the Study of Religion, and it will look at how different fields approach this study (psychologically, sociologically, historically, critically, theologically....). I don't know... for me, there's just something about the academic atmosphere that romances me. I love it. I also love that I can work on my writing skills through essaying. I'm weird, I know. I've also got my marathon training, and I'm super pleased with my progress in that! I'm SO excited for this marathon! After Around the Bay I felt like I could do anything. Road to Hope is 13k more than that.... I will be ready!
I'm really looking forward to fall. For the colours, a fresh new season, for the opportunities available in it.
Lastly, my winter goals: 1) Go snowboarding. I've never been snowboarding before, and felt it was about time I caught up with the rest of civilization. I just need fellow snowboarders interested in teaching me :). And 2) GO TO A LEAFS GAME. This has been a goal for me since, oh, FOREVER. But in the past school and student finances have always impeded my achievement of #2. This year, I mean business! Can anyone hook a sad, deprived Leafs fan up?
That's all :)
Hey, The Resistance is a really good album, and the main flaw of the album is that it isn't nearly as good as their last album, 2006s Black Holes and Revelations.
ReplyDeleteBH&R was the album of the year in 2006, but Resistance tends to give into overindulgence and just become weirdly funny at times. The last disc tended to reign in some of the over the top tendency's and be way more simple and fun.
I love Muse beyond measure, but The Resistance isnt nearly as good as the last album. Maybe, with time, Ill love it as much as BH&R. Well see I suppose.
PS: Matt Bellamy is God. Easily the best guitarist of the modern era.
I tend to disagree with you. The Resistance reigns a bit higer than BH&R for me just BECAUSE of it's overindulgence in grandiosity. I cannot name a song in the album that disinterests me. The Exogenesis Symphony is, I think, genius of Bellamy (not that he didn't prove this in other ways througout the album. AGREED: EASILY the best guitarist of the modern era!). Don't get me wrong, I loved BH&R (esp Map of the Problamatique), and up till The Resistance, Absolution was my most favourite from Muse. All of their work is outstanding. They've just evolved themselves so much on this album (which, can I add, renews my faith in the "dying art" of "the album"! I find most artists today simply produce a cd of unconnected singles. The Resistance really seems to devote itself to it's entirety. 11 songs that lead the way from one song to the other in a story-like fashion. I just love it!).
ReplyDeleteAnd ever since the HAARP DVD, my ultimate goal in life has shifted from "live to 100" to "see Muse live, and then you can die whenever you want after that". Their live productions match their sound in visual grandiosity. Lets cross our fingers they come to Southern Ontario!
Thanks for reading and sharing your opinion. I was scared all the bloggers of the world had been wiped off the earth!
Don't hate on wrestling fans. Some of us are perfectly normal well balanced contributing members of society. I've been watching since my dad introduced it to me oh... 27 years ago. It's more guilty pleasure than active liking at this point but it's still enjoyable. I was at Copps last Tuesday for the TV taping and had a great time. If I knew you were working I'd have definitely said hit and chat a little.
ReplyDeleteI actually used to be a wrestling fan too, haha. Back in what I consider WWF's "hay day" (i.e. Macho Man, Hulk Hogan, BUSHWACKERS! (haha i sort of loved them, a lot), Ultimate Warrior, Jake the Snake (who, as one customer told me, has a severe crack problem now!)....
ReplyDeleteOur Saturday involved the following: Swimming lessons in the morning, then come home for lunch and wresteling. I may or may not have a #1 foam finger.
I understand the dedication of the vast majority of WWE's fan base. I just.... I just.... Maybe it was the man who belched in my face who tained the entire population...

ReplyDeleteI am so late...
ReplyDeleteMuse live is a certain kind of awesome-ness that cannot be explained. I was lucky enough to see them live the summer BH&R came out, and it was the greatest concert I ever saw (until I see Matt Good live at Hamilton Place in December 2009), back in 2007.
But, The Exogenesis Symphony is so over the top for me that it doesn't click. Ive tried like 40 times to like it, but it just doesn't work for me. I get that its something no one else does, but still, its too goofy and borderline shitty-weird for me. Its just too much MUSE at their over-indulgence for me. Maybe it'll click for me in the next 25 times that I try to listen to it (Muse have earned it).
PS: I bought and loved the HAARP Special
Edition DVD including the coasters that it came with. Muse can do no wrong in my eyes, but still, this new album doesn't hold up to the GREATNESS that is BLACK HOLES AND REVELATIONS.
PPS: Yeah blogging?????
